Limit load analysis of graphene with pinhole defects: A nonlinear structural mechanics approach

► Graphene is modeled by a non-linear structural mechanics model. ► The effect of a single hole on the stress-strain behavior is investigated performing tensile and shear tests. ► The defect creates new critical crack paths resulting in the decrease of strength and failure strain. ► According to the effect on mechanical properties, the holes are grouped in small, medium, and large ones.
