Aortic plaque-targeted andrographolide delivery with oxidation-sensitive micelle effectively treats atherosclerosis via simultaneous ROS capture and anti-inflammation

An ROS-responsive micelle loading anti-inflammatory drugandrographolide is constructed. The micelle accumulates at the atherosclerotic plaque, decomposes in response to its oxidative microenvironment and consumes ROS during the process. Thus the drug delivery system simultaneously alleviates inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which are major factors in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, thereby exhibiting remarkable therapeutic effect.113
