Lung infection caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major threat to hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to develop PEGylated phosphatidylcholine (PC)-rich nanovesicles (phosphatiosomes) carrying ciprofloxacin (CIPX) for lung targeting to eradicate extracellular and intracellular MRSA. The nanovesicles could efficiently deliver to the lungs without the active targeting which is always expensive. The antibacterial phosphatiosomes can be recommended as the alternative to conventional infection therapy owing to their qualified lung targeting. Further study is necessary to investigate the practicability for clinical use and the possible scale-up for extensive application.279
