To achieve a timely and effective intervention of myocardial infarction (MI), we developed a robust nano-therapeutic agent armed with specific microRNA-1 inhibitor (AMO-1) while simultaneously decorated with an AT1 targeting peptide (AT1 receptor most over-expressed at 24 h after MI). Once intravenous administration in MI mice, the agent was able to fast target and accumulate at the MI heart at desired early period and deliver AMO-1 to ischemic myocardium. Upon single injection, the apoptotic cell death in the infarct border zone was significantly decreased and the myocardial infarct size was reduced by 64.1% as compared with that in MI control group.326
