The processing of good-fit semantic anomalies: An ERP investigation

► The ERP correlates of detected and missed semantic anomalies were investigated. ► Detected good-fit anomalies elicited an attenuated N400 effect. ► Non-detected anomalies elicited a generally less positive waveform 200 ms onwards. ► A number of possible explanations for non-/detection were ruled out. ► An N400 was evoked on the final word indicating delayed integration effects.
