► We examine discourse production after injury to dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. ► L DLPFC group had specific difficulty with coherence and story content. ► R DLPFC group was not significantly different from L DLPFC or comparison groups. ► Discourse ability of both groups correlated with measures of working memory.
