Análisis cualitativo de la medición multidimensional de la pobreza en México

The methodology for measuring multidimensional poverty most commonly used is the one proposed by Alkire and Foster (af). The poverty in Mexico is measured by the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval) and its proposal was based on one of the af indices. A more detailed review of both measures and of the axioms that they both satisfy, as well as the characteristics of the Mexican index is presented in this document. It is noteworthy that in Mexico, although multidimensional poverty conceptualization considers income and deprivation of social entitlements, measurement is carried out separately in each of these dimensions. Unlike the af measurement, which reports the intensity of multidimensional poverty for the total population; in Mexico the intensity of income poverty and the intensity of the shortages in the social entitlements of the multidimensional poor are measured and reported separately.
