On scale-invariant parametric families of functions

► Scale type and invariance arguments are used to characterize families of functions. ► The relation of this problem with the translation functional equation is established. ► Special cases of the problem are solved for nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio scales. ► An economic application to the Cobb-Douglas production function is given. ► A characterization of additively separable utility functions is obtained.
