• PNi-TPPS4-NPs modified electrode showed superior electrocatalytic activity toward hydrazine.
• PNi-TPPS4-NPs modified electrode shows superior stability, detection limit and reproducibility.
• PNi-TPPS4-NPs modified electrode acts as a good sensor for hydrazine analysis in alkaline media.

Herein, we report a facile two electrochemical steps method for fabrication of conducting polymer of (5,10,15,20-tetra(4-sulfophenyl) porphyrin-nickel. Scanning electron microscopy was used to study the morphology of conducting metallopolymer nanoparticles. Also, electrochemical behaviors of conducting metallopolymer nanoparticles modified electrode were studied by cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the modified electrode demonstrates excellent electrocatalytic activity toward oxidation of hydrazine. Electro-oxidation of hydrazine was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. The limit of detection and sensitivity of the modified electrode toward hydrazine were 0.11 μM and 1 mA mM−1, respectively. Moreover, diffusion coefficient (D = 4.19 × 10−6 cm2 s−1) and catalytic rate constant (kcat = 44 × 104 M−1 s−1) at the metallopolymer modified electrode were determined using chronoamperometry.
