Identification of hydroxychavicol and its dimers, the lipase inhibitors contained in the Indonesian spice, Eugenia polyantha

► Extract of Eugenia polyantha showed high pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity. ► Hydroxychavicol and two dimers were isolated as the pancreatic lipase inhibitor. ► Beneficial effect of E. polyantha arises from the high content of hydroxychavicol.
