Electrochemical and spectroscopic study of novel Cu and Fe-based catalysts for oxygen reduction in alkaline media

► ORR performance of a bi-core CuFe-Nx/C catalyst was enhanced by the presence of Cu. ► The bi-core CuFe-Nx/C catalyst exhibits reduced Cu ions and oxidized Fe ions. ► The reduced Cu ions may help to accelerate electron transfer during ORR.
