Mechanical characterization of oxide coating-interconnect interfaces for solid oxide fuel cells

► Spinel oxide coatings protect SS441 and Crofer SOFC interconnects. ► A shear lag model was used to assess interface shear strength. ► An energy-based fracture model was used to determine interface fracture strength. ► The oxidation heat treatment yields a more dense but also more brittle coating. ► Native oxide scale from the oxidation heat treatment degrades the interface.
