One dimensional coordination polymers of Cd(II) and Zn(II): Synthesis, structure, polar packing through strong inter-chain hydrogen bonding and gas adsorption studies

One dimensional coordination polymers of Cd(II) and Zn(II) have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions by utilizing ligand NPBI [NPBI = 1,1′-(4-nitro-1,3-phenylene)bis(1H-benzo[d]imidazole)]. These structures are stabilized to three dimensional architectures through polar packing which originates from intense non-bonding interactions consisting of dumbbell-shaped cavities. Cd(II) complex shows selective CO2 gas adsorption at low temperature (195 K) and pressure.204
