Crystal structure and spin crossover behavior of the [Fe(5-Cl-qsal)2][Ni(dmit)2]·2CH3CN complex

[Fe(5-Cl-qsal)2][Ni(dmit)2]·2MeCN was prepared. The magnetic behavior is described as the sum of the contribution of alternating chains of anions (with strong antiferromagnetic intrachain coupling) and chains of cations presenting a spin-crossover process. Structural constraints lead to a two step SCO transition and the appearance of a disordered intermediate phase.
