DNA barcoding and phylogeny in the family Mactridae (Bivalvia: Heterodonta): Evidence for cryptic species

► The mitochondrial COI and 16S rRNA genes demonstrated the power for identifying Mactridae species. ► COI is demonstrated to be significantly better than 16S gene for delimiting Mactridae species. ► The relationships among species of the Mactridae family are resolved. ► Potential cryptic or sibling species might exist in the Coelomactra antiquata group.
