► Metastable pitting distribution of mild steel was investigated by chaotic analysis of electrochemical noise (EN). ► Positive LLE characterization corresponds fractions and locations of metastable pits. ► Metastable pits are found more reversible and organized in wet cycles and Na2SO4 solution.
