Effectiveness of corrosion inhibitor films for the conservation of bronzes and gilded bronzes

► Prefilming agents have been applied on bronze, as alternatives to BTA. ► The best protective properties have been achieved with a silane compound. ► Preliminary tests suggest it can hinder the degradation of gilded bronze. ► The inhibition mechanism of silane is investigated by FTIR, EDS and Raman.
