The structural and transport properties of a new system xCuI-(100 â x)[Ag2O-0.7MoO3-0.3WO3], where x = 20 to 50 mol.%, has been investigated to study and establish the feasibility of using these materials as electrolytes in the fabrication of solid-state batteries and potential memory devices. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and electrical conductivity studies. The XRD and DSC analyses confirmed the glassy/crystalline composite nature of the prepared materials. These materials possess structural units containing interlinked tetrahedral MoO4 and octahedral MoO6 species in addition to discrete MoO42 â and WO42 â groups. The system exhibited high electrical conductivity value of 6.3 ± 0.3 Ã 10â 3 S cmâ 1 at 22 °C and shows a high ionic transport number value together with low activation energy. The ionic conductivity is apparently due to Ag+ ions only. The use of two glass formers led to form materials with higher electrical conductivity.
