High transparent MgO ceramics were fabricated by state-of-the-art arc plasma melting synthesis using high purity commercial powder as starting material. The structure and morphology of the sample were examined using XRD and SEM techniques, respectively. Fully dense MgO ceramics with nearly no pores and a grain size above 30â¯Î¼m were obtained with a reality density of 99.8%. The highest transmittance of the ceramic sample was close to 75% in the broad range from 400 to 1100â¯nm. Dielectric constant was calculated based on experimental data. The Verdet constant in VIS-IR spectrum was determined. The magnesium oxide transparent ceramics can be considered a promising material for visible and infrared windows.
