Microstructural investigation and the creep behavior of Mg-Sr-Mn alloys

► Mg-(3-5) wt.%Sr-(0.7-2) wt.%Mn alloys show high creep resistance at 40-50 MPa/150-200 °C. ► Orientation relationship (OR) between α-Mn and Mg17Sr2 was 〈001〉||〈12¯13¯〉. ► and {110}||{11¯01}. ► OR caused morphology change in the dynamic precipitation of α-Mn. ► Creep enhancement in Mg-Sr-Mn was attributed to the dynamic precipitation of α-Mn. ► The coarsening of dynamically precipitated α-Mn caused loss of creep resistance.
