Microstructural analysis of glass-steel interface

► A glass of composition 60SiO2-15CaO-10Al2O3-10Na2O-5TiO2 was made. ► Crystallization kinetics of glass was monitored by DTA, TGA and XRD. ► TEC values of glass and duplex steel were obtained at different temperatures. ► Glass coating on steel exhibits good adhesion having matching TEC. ► Interface between glass and steel is non-porous, smooth, crack free and cohesive.
