Deposition of coatings containing quasicrystalline AlCuFeB and β phase by magnetron sputtering

► High quality AlCuFeB targets for magnetron sputter deposition could be produced by uniaxial hot pressing. ► AlCuFeB coatings could be deposited by single target RF magnetron sputtering. ► Post annealing parameters for developing the quasicrystalline AlCuFe phase could be found. ► The surface and interface quality of the as deposited and post annealing AlCuFeB coatings was investigated.
