Photochemical grafting of fluorinate alkenes on DLC coated Ti6Al4V to improve in vitro cytocompatibility, friction and corrosion resistance

► Ti6Al4V has been multi-modified by coating DLC and grafting fluorinate alkenes. ► Photochemical grafting is facile in forming a dense monolayer interface. ► Multi-modifications evidently reduce both the surface energy and roughness. ► The as-fabricated film exhibits admirable cytocompatibility. ► Excellent anticorrosion and low friction are shown in the body liquid environment.
