Silicon carbide based plasma sprayed coatings

► Silicon carbide rich coatings were deposited by plasma spray. ► Decomposition of SiC during spraying was avoided by formation of a eutectic phase. ► A SiO2 scale was formed on the coating when exposed in air at a high temperature.
