Wear of an aluminium alloy coated by plasma electrolytic oxidation

► Resistance to wear of coatings by PEO of various thicknesses was studied by a pin on disc machine. ► The changes of the friction coefficient as a function of distance were recorded. ► 100 μm thick coatings were able to resist wear when submitted to less of less than 30 N. ► Wear on alumina balls by debris is documented.
