Performance and tribofilm formation of a low-friction coating incorporating inorganic fullerene like nano-particles

► Ni-P with Fulleren like WS2 show high potential for low friction applications. ► The electrodeposited coating gave friction that fell below 0.05 in dry conditions. ► This new electrodeposited coating can compete with commercial PVD coatings. ► WS2 with the basal planes parallel to the surface could be found in the wear track. ► Graphit-iC and BalinitC need humidity to give low friction Ni-P + IF-WS2 does not.
