Elimination of Start/Stop defects in laser cladding

► Defects formed in Start/Stop zone during laser cladding were studied experimentally. ► Few methods are proposed to eliminate such defects. ► Qualitative evaluation of these methods is provided for two types of coatings. ► Change of hardness in Start/Stop zone is attributed to change of local composition.
