Preparation and thermal shock behavior at 1000 °C of a glass-alumina-NiCrAlY tri-composite coating on K38G superalloy

► Protective coatings made of glass with a dispersion of alumina and MCrAlY particles are considered. ► NiCrAlY alloy is firstly introduced for toughening glassy coatings. ► The glassy coatings show enough protective effect from high temperature oxidation. ► The inclusion of alumina and NiCrAlY enhances resistance to thermal shock.
