A novel imaging energy filter for cathode lens electron microscopy

► A double spherical deflector imaging energy filter called α-SDA is reported. ► Compact in-column design enables simple adaption to systems using cathode lenses: PEEM & LEEM. ► Its contribution to chromatic- and geometrical aberration is negligible. ► It allows quasi-simultaneous observation of real and reciprocal images in real time.
