Feasibility of identifying leaking fuel rods using gamma tomography

► We explore the feasibility of using gamma tomography for leaker rod identification. ► The method is based on measuring fission gasses in nuclear fuel rods. ► Failed rods may be identified in fuel assemblies without disassembling the fuel. ► Three gamma-ray energies are simulated and evaluated. ► Two of the gamma-ray energies are suitable for discerning the failed rod(s).
