The impact of SO2 on post combustion carbon dioxide capture in bed of silica sand through hydrate formation

► The influence of SO2 on the thermodynamics and kinetics of CO2/N2 hydrate formation studied. ► The presence of SO2 favors the hydrates formation thermodynamically and kinetically. ► Further, addition of THF reduces the equilibrium pressure and nucleation time drastically. ► Thus, the removal of SO2 is not necessary prior to the CO2 capture by gas hydrate crystallization.
