Assessment of CO2 storage capacity in southern Israel

► We made a basin-scale capacity assessment of CO2 within deep saline aquifers in Israel. ► Borehole data was used to map three reservoir-quality units. ► Geological storage is feasible and does not threaten shallower fresh water aquifers. ► Altogether, deep saline formations can store up to 15 Gt of CO2. ► The country's storage needs for the next 50 years is about 7 Gt.
