Performance of a low Ni content oxygen carrier for fuel gas combustion in a continuous CLC unit using a CaO/Al2O3 system as support

► A low NiO content impregnated oxygen-carrier is developed. ► Low reactive Ni compounds (NiAl2O4) are avoided using CaAl2O4 as support. ► High combustion efficiencies are obtained with CH4, syngas, and LHC in a 500 Wth CLC unit. ► Very low oxygen-carrier to fuel ratios are necessary to obtain full combustion. ► The Ni inventory in the FR (17 kg/MWth) is the lowest found in literature.
