Effect of cation distribution on structural and magnetic properties of Dy substituted magnesium ferrite

► XRD confirms the spinel phase formation of the synthesized composition. ► Secondary phase formation is due to difference in cation distribution among A and B sites. ► The anomalous behavior of Ms is due to the different magnetic moment of Fe and Dy. ► The hysteresis loop suggests the formation of soft ferrimagnetic materials. ► Curie temperature depends on the Dy concentration.
