Detection and isolation of human serum autoantibodies that recognize oxidatively modified autoantigens

► “Oxidative damage intolerance“ contributes to human autoimmunity. ► We describe protocols to study serum antibodies against oxidatively modified antigens. ► Step 1: chemically modify the antigen and physicochemically characterize the product. ► Step 2: immunoblot oxidatively modified antigen with patient sera or purified IgG/IgM. ► Step 3: measure serum autoantibodies against oxidatively modified antigen by ELISA.
