Matrix metalloproteinase-1 promoter genotypes and haplotypes are associated with carotid plaque presence

►We analyzed association of three MMP-1 promoter polymorphisms with the carotid plaque. ►-1607 2G allele is the independent significant risk factor for CP presence. ►T-340 -A-519 -2G-1607 was significantly more frequent in CA compared to controls. ►1G-1607-A-519-T-340, 1G-1607-G-519-T-340 significantly decreased risk for CA. ►We highlighted the importance and necessity of haplotype analysis.
