Cytotoxicity and mechanical behavior of chitin-bentonite clay based polyurethane bio-nanocomposites

► We synthesized the chitin based polyurethane bio-nanocomposites (PUBNC) using chitin. ► Recommended the maximum contents of bentonite nanoclay into the matrix of chitin based PUBNC. ► Synthesized the PUBNCs by varying the bentonite nanoclay contents, characterized and evaluated. ► The cytotoxicity of the synthesized material increased with increase in the contents of bentonite nanoclay. ► The mechanical behavior of the synthesized material improved by increasing the contents of bentonite nanoclay.
