Genotoxic damage induced by isopropanol in germinal and somatic cells of Drosophila melanogaster

► Genotoxic effects of IPA in D. melanogaster were evaluated in germ and somatic cells. ► IPA induced up to 50 fold increase of ND in offspring born in the 24 h post treatment. ► In larvae, 50% IPA increased spots/100 eyes but the response is not dose-dependent. ► IPA failed to induce SLRL in any of the spermatogenesis stages tested. ► IPA effect probably is not on DNA directly but it perturbs nuclear membrane.
