Proteomic and metabolomic approaches to the study of polycystic ovary syndrome

► Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a frequent endocrine and metabolic disorder. ► Targeted molecular genetic techniques have not unraveled the complex etiology of PCOS. ► Nontargeted proteomics and metabolomics may identify novel candidate molecules. ► Molecules involved in multiple biological pathways are associated with PCOS. ► These molecules should be considered as candidates in future studies about PCOS.
