The main tools for monitoring the nociception/antinociception balance under anaesthesia have been described. Although these devices may provide solutions for optimising analgesia during general anaesthesia, this review of the literature highlights the fact that the choice to use one or the other is based primarily on the clinical context and the goal of the surveillance. New multiparametric indexes could in the future allow a more robust analysis of intraoperative nociception.
