Ruptura espontánea bilateral del tendón de cuádriceps en paciente con hiperparatiroidismo secundario

Bilateral and spontaneous rupture of the quadriceps tendon (QT) is a rare injury causing significant limitation of function [of the knee joint]. The etiology of this condition is not yet well established and an association with multiple factors has been described. It is strongly associated with [systemic] illnesses like hyperparathyroidism. A case is presented in a 25-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. She had a bilateral rupture of the QT clinically diagnosed and demonstrated by x-ray, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Endocrinology investigations revealed secondary hyperparathyroidism with classical bone sclerosis and resorption. This case evidences a clear clinical-radiological correlation of hyperparathyroidism with a high risk of QT injuries.
