It has been a long time since we have heard about microarrays in molecular biology, but who has really used one of these instruments on a daily basis in a clinical diagnostic laboratory? Not too much of us. Available technologies and associated cost were the main reasons why, but available applications may not have been in total adequacy with clinical diagnostic demands. This has started to change with new solutions from new technologies, simpler, faster and cheaper. Instruments coming from companies like Greiner Bio-One, Clondiag, Osmetech, Nanogen, Autogenomics, Innogenetics and Nanosphere might represent the future for the routine laboratory, with a special mention to the arrival of nanotechnologies at our bench.
