The Chi-square test indicates that the EC was more used (P < 0.05) by the finishers of the UTMB (52.9 %) than by the participants who stopped prematurely the race (46.2 %). Moreover the percentage of trailers wearing the EC increases linearly until the top 400 (r = 0.61; P < 0.05) and decreases in the top of the ranking.
