The inhibition performance of a water-soluble silane on reinforcing steel in saturated Ca(OH)2 solution contaminated by Clâ was investigated and compared with commonly organic inhibitor N,N-dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) using electrochemical techniques and surface analysis measurements. The results indicate that the lower concentration of APTS has better inhibition efficiency than DMEA, the largest inhibition efficiency are 70.1% and 97.4% for DMEA and APTS after 72â¯h immersion. DMEA promotes the interfacial layer by formation of CaCO3 deposited on steel surface, while APTS changes the character of steel surface by adsorption and effectively inhibits the pitting corrosion.
