The HEALTH OPTIMUM project: The standards application to telemedicine workflow

HEALTH OPTIMUM is a “market validation” telemedicine project, approved and co-funded by the European Community, which involves Italy with Regione Veneto as coordinator, Spain and Denmark. It is a project to validate the existing application experiences within several Healthcare Hospitals, followed by the dissemination of obtained results to other structures. Indeed, the aim of the project is to demonstrate the value of the organisational, procedural, technological and medical-legal practices found in neurosurgical telecounselling and in tele-laboratory, which are, furthermore, perfectly extendible to other specialities. The attainment of application interoperability of the various existing systems is fundamental, together with the technological management of the patient documentation produced on the project (reports, opinions, images, results): creation, digital signatures, transmission, removal and storage in patient files, following international standards and the Italian and European rules in force. The parallel study of laboratory and neurosurgical counselling, coordinated transversely, will lead to the definition of rules of unlimited scope for companies and nations.
