Disfonía y personalidad: una investigación empleando el Inventario de Personalidad NEO PI-R

The connection between voice alterations and certain personality characteristics has been revealed in numerous studies in which clinical tests, used to measure factors such as neuroticism or extraversion, have been regularly employed. However, there is an important gap in the use of questionnaires to evaluate the personality of individuals without a personality disorder. To help fill this gap, this study was conducted in 66 adults attending vocal rehabilitation, who were administered the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R), as it is a non-clinical test that measures the five major factors of normal personality. The scores obtained were compared with those found in a randomly chosen group with the same number of participants of the same age and gender, but with no voice disorders. A general descriptive and a multivariate analysis of variance were performed. The results showed significant differences in some variables but these did not coincide with those found in previous studies. More detailed research of this type should be performed, using tests designed for a complete psychological evaluation of persons with no relevant disorders.
