The results of our research suggest that the mothers of our sample of Down's syndrome children use educational strategies that are far from optimum for developing language, as well as certain management and input features that are unsuited to their children's communication and development level. If the family is accorded a fundamental role in children's development, early intervention programmes should include parents in the intervention process.
