In recent years, hundreds of genetic syndromes that have an important grade of intellectual incapacity have been identified (Dykens, 1995; Shprintzen, 1997). Intellectual incapacities with genetic origin account for about 30% of the moderate or serious mental retardation cases. Given our knowledge (increasingly greater) on a number of genetic syndromes of mental retardation (see Dykens, Hodapp and Finucane, 2000; Rondal, Hodapp, Soresi, Dykens and Note, 2004), it is pertinent to question up to what point these syndromes have identical or specific characteristics.
