Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis Prophylaxis: A Succinct Review for Pediatric Emergency Physicians and Nurses

This article briefly reviews the pathogenesis, microbiology, epidemiology and the diagnostic criteria for infective endocarditis, and provides guidelines regarding antibiotic prophylaxis. Unfortunately, there is a paucity of data or published recommendations to guide the use of antibiotic prophylaxis for subacute bacterial endocarditis with specific injuries or emergency department procedures.
