Mallory-Weiss Tears, Angiodysplasia, Watermelon Stomach, and Dieulafoy's: A Potpourri

Mallory-Weiss tears, angiodysplasia, watermelon stomach, and Dieulafoy's lesions are important causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and contribute substantially to the morbidity and cost of care associated with UGI hemorrhage. Recognition of such lesions is critical to provide effective hemostasis. Endoscopic therapy with thermal coagulation, injection sclerotherapy, or a combination of both can significantly improve patient outcomes. This article reviews recent advances in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage from Mallory-Weiss tears, angiodysplasia, watermelon stomach, and Dieulafoy's lesion.
